Mezzacorona
Vuonna 1904 perustettu Mezzacorona sijaitsee Pohjois-Italiassa, Alppien juurella Trentinon viinialueella. Mezzacorona tunnetaan kansainvälisesti maailman merkittävimpänä Pinot Grigio -lajikeen tuottajana. Yhtiö omistajia ovat osuuskunnalle rypäleitä toimittavat alueen pienviljelijät. Yrityksellä on erittäin nykyaikaiset tuotantolaitokset ja tarkkaan koordinoidut 2 400 hehtaarin viinitarhat. Osoituksena viinien korkeasta laadusta Wine Enthusiast lehti valitsi Mezzacoronan vuonna 2009 vuoden eurooppalaiseksi tuottajaksi. Italian kansainvälisesti tunnetuimpiin lukeutuvan kuohuviinin, Rotarin, lisäksi Mezzacorona omistaa myös 1 000 hehtaaria viinitarhoja Siciliassa Feudo Arancio-Stemmari viinien tuotantoon. Tuotannosta yli 70% menee vientiin. Mezzacorona oli myös Italian ensimmäisiä vastuullisen tuotannon edelläkävijöitä luomalla jo 1980-luvulla Integrated Farm management -periaatteisiin pohjaavan tarhojenhoito ohjeistuksen jäsenviljelijöilleen.
Mezzacorona lies at the foot of the majestic Italian Dolomites. Its vineyards with pergola trellising, characteristic of the region, run from Lake Garda to the foothills of the towering Dolomites. A fresh and wild breeze blows from the over 400 lakes and numerous glaciers of the surrounding mountains, peaking at over 9,000 feet.
Thanks to a spectrum of microclimates, ranging from Mediterranean and Alpine, and profiting from over a century of winemaking experience, Mezzacorona planted varietals in the zones best tailored to the needs of each varietal, allowing them to flaunt the aromas and flavour of their terroir.
Through state-of-the-art facilities and modern winemaking techniques, Mezzacorona offers to the final consumer 100% single varietal wines characterized by all the vivid elegance and crispiness typical of the Italian Dolomites.
Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay are dominant in the Dolomites. They are well known for their floral tones, exotic fruit, ripe aromas and silky smoothness on the palate. Mezzacorona is the largest Italian estate producer of these two varietals.
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon also have a long history of cultivation in the region. They are vinified in such a way that the varietals’ flavors of forest berries, chocolate and toasted almond are preserved.
As the winemakers intended, these wines are crafted to be a perfect complement to Italian and International cuisine.
Mezzacorona constantly receives strong ratings, and is renowned for its consistent quality, vintage after vintage.
The Mezzacorona winery is equipped with the most modern enological equipment available today. The winery is used for collecting the grapes produced by the 1,500 associate growers and for vinifying the grapes according to the company’s 100% single varietal philosophy.
The Mezzacorona winery is the perfect example of excellence in wine production. Vinification occurs in steel tanks at controlled temperature. The whole process is constantly looked over by the team of enologists which manages the fermentation and organic evolution, the pumping over and the ageing of the wine. The steel tanks, casks, barrels and bottling equipment are extremely sophisticated and are a symbol of enological excellence.
Mezzacorona is surrounded by a region rich in natural beauty, castles, history and tradition. Mountain peaks of the Dolomites alternate with plains and natural terraces, where vines have been cultivated forever.
Here Mezzacorona cultivates its very own vineyards using the traditional “pergola” growing system and the modern, international “espalier” system.
The “pergola” growing system comes from the tradition of producing high-quality, manually worked vineyards, where man is the main actor. This gives the villages in the countryside their characteristic and highly-recognizable structure, reminiscent of a wave.
The “espalier” growing system, however, is oriented towards a type of production where mechanization is key. Well-organized, precise and minimalist, it makes the territory extremely essential.
The particularly varied composition of terrain and the various climatic areas, from Sub-Mediterranean to Alpine, have allowed the various grape varieties to find their ideal habitat and to reveal the best of their very own natural characteristics.
Mezzacorona cultivates each variety only in the areas where they grow best: Teroldego in the Piana Rotaliana, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay along the Valle dell’Adige and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon near Lake Garda.
The climate and territory give rise to elegant, aromatic and balanced wines.
